Serving the Community:

The goal of the Lone Star Film Society is to preserve and present the art of the moving image and examine its influence on world culture. With this in mind, the Society has several programs in place (and several in the planning stages).

Festivals
Lone Star International Film Festival
Presented at venues in various districts in Fort Worth, LSIFF showcases independent films and featured films, offers workshops and seminars by celebrity and professional filmmakers (directors, screenwriters, cameramen, etc…), a presentation to FWISD students in collaboration with Imagination Celebration, and much more.

Teen VideoFest
Teen Videofest is a program created by Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) and supported by many community agencies challenging teenagers to speak out—through video—on an aspect of teen health that they feel is important.

Kinetiq HD Film Series
This quarterly film series will feature non-distributed independent films of high quality that will be shown at The Modern. All proceeds generated will be donated to a film scholarship fund that has been set up to endow and annual scholarship and any surplus will be put toward video lab development for high schools.

All LSFS members can get discounted tickets!

Tickets can be purchased at www.kinetiqhd.eventbrite.com

Fearless Film Festival
This short fim and video festival attracted filmmakers from all over the world in 2007. Films will be shown in the David L. Tandy Lecture Hall in the Fort Worth Central Library from noon until 8:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, April 19 and 20, during the Arts Festival. Admission is free to the public to watch the films.

The Lone Star Film Society also has several Long Term Goals:

Film Liaison for City of Fort Worth
LSFS would like to become involved in soliciting and negotiating film production in Fort Worth and areas around for on-site filming.

Adding as a perk for being a member of the Society, advance notice for “calls” for casting and extras.

Lifetime Achievement Award
(click here to view photos from last year)
The Lone Star Film Society (LSFS) is hosting a community celebration for homegrown star, Bill Paxton, by presenting him with the Lone Star Film Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award. We are hoping that you would consent to becoming a member of the Host Committee. This commitment requires nothing but your name – no meetings and no financial commitment if you wish.

In an effort to institute an annual film festival in the city of Fort Worth and to foster appreciation for independent films, the society has organized the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award honors individuals whose body of work in television or film has contributed to the cultural and social consciousness, whose contributions have helped further the art of the moving image. Past recipients include Gregory Peck, Donald O'Connor and Fort Worth's own, Bill Paxton in 2006.

Imagination Celebration
The Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration program began in 1977 as an outreach project of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. It was created to develop arts awareness in school children and an arts alliance between educators, their arts counterparts, and the community cultural network.

Imagination Celebration Fort Worth, a seed of that program, was created and developed through a partnership between the 80,000 student Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) and the community cultural network. ICFW is an independent non-profit organization, which has raised in excess of $5,000,000 over the past fifteen years to provide arts and cultural experiences for young people in our area. Fort Worth, as a community, has embraced this program through the generous donations of private foundations, corporations, and individuals. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts remains our partner and has selected this program as the national model for community arts and cultural collaborations bestowing ICFW with the Kennedy Center Award for Excellence in 1993. Educators, community leaders, and youth, we take pride in this unique partnership between Imagination Celebration and Fort Worth ISD that utilizes the finest institutions in our community to strengthen teaching and learning.

Please be sure to check back for updates on these and other programs the Lone Star Film Society will be bringing to the community.
